FCCPC to Review MultiChoice Subscription Price Hike
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has announced plans to scrutinize the recent subscription price increments by MultiChoice, aiming to ensure Nigerian consumers receive fair value for their money. This was confirmed by the Acting CEO of FCCPC, Adamu Abdullahi, during an exclusive interview on Channels Television's 'Dateline Abuja' program.
MultiChoice, the South African-based satellite television service which operates DSTV and GOtv, attributed the price adjustments to the increased costs of doing business. The new rates are set to take effect from May 1, 2024.
Here are the details of the new pricing:
**DSTV Price Changes:**
- **Premium:** From N29,500 to N37,000

During the interview, Abdullahi also provided updates on other ongoing consumer protection efforts, including a recent summons to the owner of a Chinese store in Abuja accused of discriminatory practices and the monitoring of compliance with directives issued to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.
With these price changes posing a significant burden to Nigerian families, the FCCPC's review will be a critical watch point for both consumers and industry stakeholders.
